This will be a very short post as I’m on my way out the door to Saskatoon. I wanted to post a comic though, and make a few things clear:
1. I FINALLY have a Wii Fit! Woo hoo! It’s everything I dreamed it would be (well, except for the scary little kid voice going “MEAsuring…. MEAsuring…. MEAsuring….”. If I’d dreamed that, I’d be, well, scared).
2. SCHOOL’S OUT!
3. I’m going to Australia for World Youth Day in two weeks.
Life is good

A comic is up, but rather than talking about it I’d like to join Roger Ebert as one of the few people who appreciate M. Night Shyamalan’s new movie The Happening. There seems to be a general consensus (the movie’s at 17% on Rotten Tomatoes) that Shyamalan’s latest effort is a step up from Lady In the Water but still a fairly worthless piece of drivel with bad acting and worse writing.
I happened (no pun intended) to read one review which called The Happening “a monster movie badly in need of a monster.” I think that illustrates exactly why so many people will hate the darn thing: it’s NOT a monster movie. That’s actually the whole point: the closest thing we get to a monster in the whole movie is a very strange old lady who simultaneously saves and nearly destroys the protagonists.
Of course, I’m biased. I adore Zooey Deschanel and Mark Whalberg, so you’ll never get me to admit the movie was badly acted. I also adore M. Night Shyamalan and his Hitchcock-inspired film making. Lady in the Water was, perhaps, not the best thing I’d ever seen (although I still liked it more than the critics) — ditto The Village. But I was not on board with everyone who criticized Unbreakable and Signs, which I really enjoyed. People accused Signs of having a deux ex machina ending, which shows their ignorance of the term — it refers to ancient Greek theatre where the playwright, having basically written himself into a corner a la Who Shot J.R.? would have a god descend from a machine to save the day.
In Signs, Shyamalan doesn’t write himself into the corner. He spends the entire movie carefully working his way there.
I feel bad for the guy: almost every review says the same thing, “not the Sixth Sense.” No, it isn’t. I’m sure if he’d known what The Sixth Sense was letting him in for he’d never have made the darn thing.
At any rate, go see the movie and decide for yourself. If you hate it fair enough, but don’t trust the critics on this one.

So I think I’ve given up writing posts that have anything to do whatsoever with the strip of the day… although I will say that this is basically a verbatim transcript of a conversation I had with one of my more talkative students last week!
This’ll be a short post since I have to run to the vet right away. My baby bunny Skunkzilla is sick and has been for a few days… which means not only have I had the joy of cleaning up after an incontinent rabbit, I’ve had to give her several baths (leading to lots of indignant looks and foot flicking). She’s not eating well. I almost took her into emergency last night but the $200 fee (on top of any treatments) stopped me.
Anyway she seems a bit better this morning, but I’m still going to run her in. Cheers!

I’ve just returned from my best friend’s wedding (a phrase that has been FOREVER RUINED by Julia Roberts) in Vancouver. We had a lovely time, no thanks to Air Canada, who:
1. Used an obscure clause to drop my air miles down to zero because they hadn’t been redeemed for three years (from a total of about 50 000)
2. Broke my suitcase on the way to Vancouver
3. Lost my suitcase on the way home.
At any rate, this explains the strip being a day late
I hardly had time to do it yesterday while running around Vancouver having odd pictures taken of me doing things like walking through busy traffic (none of which cared that we were a wedding party, only that they wanted to get home) and smiling “with [my] eyes.”
Checked into my hotel around 1, and left it by 6:30. I was thinking about asking for an hourly rate, but I thought that might give the wrong idea in the long run.
Anyway, the bunnies are very mad at me for leaving, so they’re into everything and anything (Kirsty is currently perched on the sewing machine glowering at me while Skunkz sniffs suspiciously at my dance shoes). For that reason, I’ll have to keep this short: leave the brats alone for a few minutes, and God knows what’ll happen!
